Reflections

The first photo I took when out walking this afternoon was the sort I had in mind when I started looking for pictures to take each day. Not that particular picture – the idea was seeing things I was not expecting. But I was expecting to find things that I was not expecting, if I was looking for them.

Walking along in late afternoon, it’s common to see lighted windows. But these windows were lit from the outside, not the inside. Standing right in front of the house, every window was dark. But at the right angle, each window reflected the sunset that was streaking the sky with pink and orange.

And there there is the figurative meaning of reflection, as in pondering something, giving it careful consideration. I certainly like giving sunsets careful consideration. I don’t want to be too repetitive in my pictures here, but I imagine every sunset is just a little different. And an article in Psychology Today that says “Admiring the Sunset Changes You for the Better,” so the more sunsets I enjoy, the better. Here is a fuller view of the sunset captured in those windows.

Finally, I saw a different sort of reflected light in my neighbor’s yard. The snow we got last week now has a hard crust on it, which reflects the light quite well – streetlights, lampposts, and here, Christmas lights.
