I’ve thought for some time about starting a blog, and New Year’s Day is as good as any time to do it. Better than most, because I have the day off, there’s plenty of leftovers in the fridge from yesterday, and I’ve had a good night’s sleep (despite staying up watching a Pinky and the Brain video with my family as we waited for midnight to roll around).
I love to read, and to start with I will probably blog mostly about what I’ve been reading and what I think about it, or what other thoughts it brings to mind. I have spent less time than usual reading, in the past year, and probably too much time playing games of Spider Solitaire, Freecell, and Mahjongg. (I also love puzzles - visual puzzles like those games, word puzzles like cryptograms and crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, etc.) Those games are fun and relaxing, but not ultimately as satisfying as reading a book that expands my mental horizons and stirs my soul.
So this blog will provide me with the incentive to read more because I’ll need something to write about. And I hope that others who love books and ideas will find something interesting in what I post and will respond with their own ideas, and perhaps some reading suggestions.

Hey Pauline!
Good job starting a blog. Maybe we’ll drop in from time to time.
Congrats on the “Wabby”. Looking forward to more thoughtful comments from you at WMB.

Good to see you making the start, Pauline! Remind us old people at times to come back and check on things, I need that at least until it becomes a habit. I look forward to seeing what you have to write. Bravo!

I’m looking forward to reading your blog here, Pauline, but please don’t leave us over at wmb! I would miss your wisdom and well-written, thoughtful perspectives on issues there.

Thanks for stopping by, all of you.
mmacmurray, I certainly plan to stick around at wmb. This weekend has been great for interesting discussions there. I don’t know if it’s because people had more time, or the topics just happened to be to my liking. But I would miss the variety of topics and commenters there if I left.

Congratulations on your new blog, Pauline! I’ve bookmarked it and will check in every now and then to see how you’re doing and what you’ve been reading.
Happy 2008!

Hi Pauline,
You’ve already started the new year doing something you said you want to do and here it is! Good job!
Have you ever read any books by P.G. Wodehouse? I have the Girl in Blue and just started reading it to see if it’s worth keeping. I am trying only to have books that I know is good and that I would want to read again or loan out. Quite a task because we have accumulated a lot of books over the years and I hate getting rid of books.
I’m inspired to start a blog, too, now.
Happy New Year!

Hi Hamachi! Good to see you here. I wasn’t sure if you were still around at wmb to see my post saying I’d started the blog.
theselittleones,
I’ve never read P.G. Wodehouse, but I think I’ll have to plan on it. Though I see from a quick search at amazon.com that there’s lot to choose from – any suggestions what I try first?

Just checking things out. I love to read.

Hi pauline. I like the name you gave your blog. I will try to stop by from time to time. I hear you when you say you spent a long time setting this up. My daughter says my blog gives me another way to waste time on the computer. Ha! This from one who changes her yahoo! avatar several times per week!

PeterL,
But she can probably change it five times, faster than you or I could figure out to change it once.

Congratulations on your new blog. It should be quite interesting, if I’m smart enough to follow along.
Something I did not know when I started was that you have to put in your URL in your profile in order to link to your blog when you comment on other wordpress blogs. You’ll probably get more traffic with an automatic link like that.

Thanks for the tip, RG. I’m sure there’s a lot I haven’t figured out yet. Things like you have on your site, for instance – the top five most recent comments, and where the links are to your About and Spiritual Journey pages (on top instead of on the right). Is that because of the theme you selected, or some tool you used to set it up that way?

Hello.

You find those things under the Presentation menu on your Dashboard. At the top of the Presentations page are options for Widgets and Extras, which is what you want. You can choose them and arrange them in whatever order you like.
